Coach Education Series Kicking Coach Pathway

The Kicking Coach Pathway provides clarity for coaches by establishing a clear, progressive Framework for how kicking is taught, developed, and applied within AFL environments. Across the industry, kicking is often coached with inconsistent language, conflicting models, and unresolved debates around technique, decision-making, and transfer to game performance.  This pathway addresses that ambiguity by aligning kicking technique with skill acquisition principles, sports science, and real game demands. Through Levels 1 to 3, coaches develop a deeper understanding of how players acquire kicking skill, how technique adapts under time, space, and pressure, and how kicking can be supported within and across different game model’s.

The pathway supports coaches in moving beyond isolated technique instruction toward designing learning environments that transfer to performance on game day.  The Kicking Coach Pathway is designed for those coaching either Juniors or Seniors.
